Everyone has a story to tell — a journey shaped by memories, dreams, challenges, triumphs, and the small everyday moments that make life uniquely ours. National Write Your Story Day, observed every year on March 14th, is an invitation for all of us to pause, reflect, and put our personal stories into words.
For writers, artists, students, and anyone who’s ever thought “Maybe someday I’ll write this down,” today is that someday.
The La Veta Creative District is proud to celebrate this meaningful day, because storytelling lies at the heart of creativity. Whether written, spoken, painted, or performed, stories connect us — and help preserve the spirit of our community.
Why Write Your Story?
Writing your story isn’t just about recording memories. It’s about:
Reflecting on where you’ve been
Understanding who you are today
Preserving your voice for future generations
Finding meaning in life’s big and small moments
Sharing wisdom or inspiration with others
Your story matters — and it's powerful, even if you’re the only one who ever reads it.
The History of National Write Your Story Day
National Write Your Story Day was created to encourage people of all ages to take time each year to write about their lives in whatever form feels most authentic:
A memoir or personal essay
A letter to your future self
A short story inspired by real experiences
A journal entry
A collection of memories or personal reflections
What began as a simple reminder to capture your life on the page has grown into a national celebration of storytelling and personal creativity.
How to Celebrate National Write Your Story Day
1. Start a Journal or Personal Memoir
You don’t need to write your whole life story today. Start small:“The moment I knew I belonged in La Veta…”or“A memory that shaped who I am…”
One page is a perfect beginning.
2. Join a Writing Meetup or Creative Circle
Connect with other writers in the community. Share stories, exchange ideas, or simply write together in a cozy space. Creative energy is contagious!
3. Turn Your Story Into Art
Stories don’t have to stay on the page. Transform a piece of your personal narrative into:
A painting
A poem
A photo series
A collage
A handmade book
Your creativity is part of your story.
4. Interview Someone You Love
Everyone in La Veta has stories worth preserving — elders, neighbors, long-time artists, your own family. Capture their voice and keep the tradition of storytelling alive.
5. Share Your Words (If You Want)
Post an excerpt, quote, or reflection on social media using #WriteYourStoryDay and #LaVetaCreativeDistrict.
Or keep your writing private — both choices honor the day.
Your Story Is Part of La Veta’s Story
The La Veta Creative District thrives on authenticity, artistry, and the lived experiences of the people who call this place home. Your story, whether deeply personal or joyfully ordinary, adds richness to our creative community.
So this March 14th, set aside a few minutes, find a quiet corner, and let your words flow. The blank page is simply waiting for you.
Happy National Write Your Story Day — we can’t wait to see (or simply know) what you create.
